Staff Notice Board

Looking for Volleyball Team Members

This notice is for employee would be interested in starting up a new company volleyball team with me. Piezer Healthcare used to have a company volleyball team a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. We practiced once or twice a week, and even started playing other area teams, but when the company relocated the team stopped.

It is my wish to a new company team, with the aim of competing in the Kent Business Volleyball Championship. I have checked with the local sports centre, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings are available. So we can practice on either one of these evenings, whichever is most for the team as a whole. Although I'd like the team to eventually compete in the Kent championship, I that our gatherings would mainly be sociable, fun meetings where we can also get into shape!

Would anyone interested please email me and state which day is more convenient for you. All ages and levels welcome. Thanks, and I hope to see you soon on the volleyball court!

News Weekly Report

German-French Collaboration Reports Love
by Fredrick Fibber
Associated Print Writer

Scientists, behaviourist, and counsellors all that there is nothing to compare to the feeling of being in love, to make people happy and healthy. "Love" is regarded by some as all-important, to maintaining one's health in mind, and body.

Over the last four decades, the Ich Liebe mon Amour Society has been working on a paper called "Love Bites". Soon to be released, this paper is based on interviews conducted with over 5,000 couples, as well as the latest science data, and statistics. It will over 700 case studies, and is one of the most anticipated pieces of research carried out in recent years. The final report is expected to give evidence on exactly how "love" affects our lives, and how we can ensure good relationships.

Of interest, will be the Society's findings on just how much a broken heart can affect one's life span. The report is said to reveal the number of months which loss of a loved one can take away, from our lives.

Of course, there are some who think that this research won't tell us anything, that we don't already know. They are skeptical that the report has been a complete waste of time, and money. Gardener Finds Lost Treasure
Part Two

Long after Captain de la Cruz was gone and search parties no longer hoped to find him and his crew, stories were about his lost treasures. For years many searched for the treasures of 1523 and it wasn't until 1956, when anthropologists finally decided that although the stories of Captain de la Cruz were probably more or less accurate, the treasures no longer existed. It was that perhaps these treasures, although most assumed that they probably had at one point existed right along with the stories, got lost at sea with the captain.

On one sunny Wednesday afternoon, Francisco Marin, a gardener from the beach town of Santa Maria found the treasure. "It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought that it was some kind of mistake," he tells us.

After he carefully took the treasure out of the ground, he waited until he had finished his work to take it home and take a closer look. The day he took one of the gold pieces to an expert and asked him if it was really gold.

When it was decided that the piece was gold and not just golden, Marin turned the treasure in to the city. It was a move that many couldn't believe. Many said that if they were in his place they would have kept the gold. Marin received a 0,000 reward for being such an excellent citizen.

Hollywood's Greatest Hits and Misses
The Big Successes: The Warriors (1979)

The Warriors was released during the hot summer of 1979, at a time American street-life was of major interest to the newspapers, television and especially the US Government. Young adults were out on the streets, mixing with each other in places like New York and Los Angeles, often creating new musical styles and, just as frequently, fighting among themselves control of their city.

The Warriors was ground-breaking; in that it blended real life with acted parts, in a documentary-like style which had a dramatically, unique feel about it. The results it produced were exceptional.

Although the film was rather dark, many audiences could to it. In this writer's opinion, The Warriors was quite simply in the right place at the right time. It was a "slice of life" in which there were no clean-cut loving families, no positive messages, and no happy ending. It was totally unconventional - and that's just what people were looking for.

Prior to its release, the American Movie Ratings Board tried to block The Warriors, on the grounds its subject matter was not suited for the young - its target audience. continued on page 27

A Few Words on Chopsticks

When Marco Polo returned from his to the Far East, he brought with him a new eating utensil never before seen by Europeans. These have come to be known in the West, as "chop sticks".

No one is quite sure about the of chopsticks. The Han Chinese whom Marco Polo met on his travels, claimed to have invented chopsticks themselves, just a few centuries earlier. Other Chinese peoples, however, that chopsticks can be traced to a king, who lived more than 3000 years ago.

Now-a-days, with the popularity of Chinese, Korean and Japanese foods, chopsticks are in the West. Many have learned to use them, although, with varying degrees of skill. Most who do become skilled chopstick users however, appreciate the fact that they do not affect the taste of food, as western eating utensils of steel or silver can do. And many just feel that eating with chopsticks, enhances their Asian dining experience.

In spite of the wide-spread acceptance of chopsticks, many are not aware of the manners and customs associated with them. It is, for example, considered rude in China, to stick your chopsticks upright in a bowl. It is also thought rude to strike the side of your bowl with chopsticks.
